Eger Wine District
The Eger Wine Festival showcases Hungary's first wine with a Protected Designation of Origin: the renowned 'Hungarikum' Egri Bikavér, its white counterpart Egri Csillag, and other PDO wines from Eger. The event focuses on the enjoyment of fine wine, direct contact with consumers, and explores the connections between culture, gastronomy, food and wine.
The event is a complex artistic and gastronomic festival. As part of the long-standing and popular Wine Festival tradition, the best chefs in Eger and the surrounding area prepare special dishes especially for the occasion to accompany the wines. On the feast day of the patron saint of grape and wine producers, awards are presented to the previous year's best winemaker, grape and wine producer, and wine gastronome, and the Eger Grape and Wine Culture Medal is awarded for lifetime achievement.
