In the morning, visit the Matyó Museum and the Hadas district in Mezőkövesd and, if you have time, the Agricultural Machinery Museum. The Gallery named after István Takács, who created the frescoes which adorn the Eger Basilica, is also interesting, and once you’ve visited this, you shouldn’t miss the church of St Ladislaus, also decorated with his works.
Then head to the entrance of the Hór Valley between Cserépfalu and Bükkzsérc; the Suba-lyuk Cave, where Neanderthal remains were found, is just a few hundred metres away. Then have lunch in a nearby restaurant and stroll along the Berezdalja cellar row in Cserépfalu. From here, it’s just a short walk to the Millennium Lookout Tower, from which there is a wonderful view of the sun setting behind the distant Nagy-Eged Hill. You will pass some former cave dwellings on the way.
Book your accommodation in Bogács, where you can spend the rest of the day in the pools of the Bogács Spa and Thermal Bath. There are several restaurants where you can enjoy dinner later. If you’d rather enjoy some wine instead of an afternoon swim, then visit one of the nearby Tibolddaróc wineries and discover the world of Bükk’s still and sparkling wines.
