2 DAY TOUR

Villány Wine District

1. day tour

Start the day with a cycle tour beginning in Villány, passing through Villánykövesd and ending up in Palkonya. It’s worth stopping off at the Batthyány Cellar in Villánykövesd, whose design is more reminiscent of a church, before ending your tour with a visit to St Elizabeth’s Round Church in Palkonya.

The cellars in all the villages are interesting and you’ll find good wine everywhere! Kis-jakabfalva just outside the wine district makes an interesting detour; you can taste Villány wines here within the walls of a beautiful monumental Swabian house in the local wine manufactory.

You can find accommodation in virtually any village, but based on the excursions, it’s worth booking either at the start point or end point. It won’t be a problem to find somewhere for dinner that show-cases the wine district’s high-quality gastronomy in either Villány or Palkonya.

2. day tour

Dedicate today to Siklós and its surroundings. In the morning, visit the Máriagyűd Shrine, Basilica and Visitor Centre, where you can escape the world’s hustle and bustle and immerse yourself in silence. Afterwards, you can visit a winery halfway to Siklós to taste the hill’s nectar.

Have lunch in Siklós, then visit the castle and its exhibitions, marvel at the view from the bastions and relax within its cool walls. Then visit the mosque, still functioning today, and be sure to go to the Orthodox Church of St Demeter, which not only boasts a lavish iconostasis, but you will also learn that Siklós has its own Orthodox saint, whose former tomb can be reached on foot or by bicycle through the vineyards.

You can round off the day in the thermal pools of the Siklós Thermal Spa before enjoy-ing dinner nearby.
