Zala Wine District

1 day tour

If you only have one day for the wine district, then you should definitely spend it in the hills near the Slovenian border, as the wines from this part of the Zala wine district are markedly different from those from the other parts of the wine district closer to Lake Balaton, thus unique and unrepeatable. Visit the ancient beech grove called Vétyemi Ősbükkös on the edge of Tormafölde, marvel at Bázakerettye, the cradle of the Hungarian oil industry, and its old oil wells, now considered industrial monuments, and then enjoy a wine tasting at a winery in Csörnyeföld.

Afterwards, if you wish to understand the history of these hills, vineyards and villages, you can also visit Lendava, now on the other side of the border. If you still have some energy left, you can end the day by visiting the Andrássy-Szapáry Palace in Szécsisziget and maybe even the Kerka Watermill Museum, also in the village. You could also take the narrow-gauge railway between Csömödér and Kistolmács or relax in the pools of the thermal bath in Lenti.
