2 DAY TOUR

Balaton-Highlands Wine District

1. day tour

In the morning, visit the stone sea on the outskirts of Szentbékkálla, marvel at the moveable stone and the petrified former seashore tour, then stroll around Szentbékkálla and enjoy a wine tasting at a local winery. Then rent a bike or head off on foot along the slopes of Fekete Hill along the paths through the vineyards to neighbouring Köveskál, which has advertised itself as Gastro Village for years, and not without reason. Have lunch in one of the bistros, walk around Fekete Hill, climb up to the Eötvös Lookout Tower and admire the landscape, where huge herds of grey cattle once grazed, from above. Wander back down through the almond trees and rows of vines to Köveskál, sip a refreshing fruit cordial on a terrace or in a grassy courtyard under the sunshades, taste wine in one of the countless wineries, check out the town’s well with its laundry room and finally have dinner at one of the cosy restaurants.

2. day tour

In the morning, visit the Salföld Manor, where you can see a demonstration of the animal husbandry once typical of the Kál Basin, and then head to Sümeg. After visiting the castle, have lunch in the city, then visit the Bishop’s Palace under the castle as well as the Baroque old town and enjoy a wine tasting at a Sümeg winery. The best experience is to taste wines made from the special grape varieties cultivated below the castle! Then visit the birthplace of Sándor Kisfaludy and enjoy a cheese tasting in neighbouring Sümegprága. End the day with a unique gastronomic experience in Sümegprága, where a legendary chef runs a guesthouse and pop-up restaurant, using local ingredients and wines, cheese and cordials, fruit and vegetables to showcase the region’s gastronomy in an unforgettable way.
