Balatonfüred-Csopak Wine District

1. day tour

Visit Sajkod Bay in the morning and paddle in the still calm water with only kayaks gliding by, admiring Lake Balaton’s last and only natural bay, where the forest still descends to the lake in some places. Then visit Tihany Abbey, shout loudly at the echo stone on Echo Hill and listen to your voice rebounding off the northern wall of the abbey, before walking to the Panopticon of the Hungarian Kings.

Have lunch in Tihany, then visit the National Park presentation centre, the Lavender House, where you can learn about the history of the Tihany Peninsula. After visiting the monks’ caves and the geyser cones, end the day with a wine tasting in a winery in Aszófő.

2. day tour

In the morning, start the day on the hillside above Balatonfüred, at the Jewish cemetery, at the tomb of the internationally renowned philosopher Ágnes Heller. From here, walk to the Lóczy Cave, but relax on the way on the terrace of one of the most famous wineries in Balatonfüred with a glass of wine or fruit cordial and admire the view over Balatonfüred. After visiting the Lóczy Cave, climb up to the Jókai Lookout Tower, then walk below the forest and above the vineyards towards Csopak.

Have lunch here in the restaurant or on the terrace of one of its famous wineries. Continue towards Paloznak, relaxing en route on a wine terrace or even ending the day there, tasting wine and listing to jazz, with a view of Lake Balaton below the vineyards, or continue all the way to the centre of Paloznak and have a delicious dinner in one of its restaurants accompanied by some famous Csopak Rizling.

You can do the tour on foot, by bike or even by car. With the latter option, you’ll have time to visit even more sights in Füred.
