2 DAY TOUR

Sopron Wine District

1. day tour

Visit Kőszeg with its impressive Jurisics Castle, the Renaissance Sgraffittós House, the Old Tower, numerous churches and the whole built heritage of the town centre. You could easily spend a day here even if you don’t indulge in a wine tasting after dinner!

You can spend the afternoon hiking up to the inscription stone marking the border with Austria to round off the evening in a Kőszeg winery, or, alternatively, discover the ever-expanding selection of Kőszeg wines by visiting several exciting little cellars in search of Zweigelt and Kékfrankos.

If you are not in the mood for the forest hike or a winery or two, the nearby Bükfürdő Themal & Spa is the ideal place to relax before a wine tasting in Kőszeg or even a wine dinner.

2. day tour

Stay in the Kőszeg area. Visit the cellar row in Cák, then the watermill and chapel of St Vid in Velem. Then visit the Kámon Arboretum and have lunch in a restaurant in Szombathely.

Start the afternoon at the Iseum Savariense Archaeological Workshop and Repository, or tour the area’s medieval churches, visiting the churches in Csempeszkopács and Ják. The latter is Hungary’s most symbolic Romanesque creation!

At the end of the day, walk to Vashegy on the edge of Vaskeresztes, perhaps through the gorge valley of the Pinka Gap and end the day at a local winery, where you can taste wines similar to the Austrian Blaufränkisch on the other side of Vashegy much more cheaply than in Austria.
