Sign up for a wine tour in Szekszárd and discover the town’s sights by visiting the filming locations for the scenes of the Obsitos film. The programme starts with a screening of the film and will definitely last five hours, and you are sure to have built up an appetite by the end, so then head to a winery in the town centre serving hot food. After lunch, enjoy a speciality coffee in the town’s popular coffeehouse, and if you’ve built up enough strength, organise a walking tour taking in several family wineries, exploring the wine district’s valleys.
Have dinner and spend the night in Szekszárd, either in the city centre or a guest house of a nearby winery.
In the morning, take part in a rowing tour by canoe or kayak on the Rezéti-Danube, in consultation with the authorities of the Danube-Drava National Park and water level permitting, or alternatively, make a cycle tour in the Gemenc Forest. Afterwards, visit the Black Stork House in Báta and then the pride of Bátaszék, the great oak next to the St Orbán Chapel, which was also named tree of the year in 2016.
A wonderful panorama will unfold before your eyes from next to the chapel. Round off the day with a wine tasting in Báta or Bátaszék, then return to Szekszárd for dinner and to sleep.
On the morning of the last day, drive south, visiting a winery to your right as you leave Szekszárd and tasting their wines, so that the Sarköz is below you and the green fault line of the Danube is glistening in front of you. From here, continue to Szálka, where you can enjoy a picnic lunch on the lake shore, then visit the family apiary at the end of the lake in the old watchman’s house. Then visit the Mary Lookout Tower in Grábóc, where you can have a walk, and then the nationally significant Serbian church and monastery.
The first Orthodox church was built on this site in 1580 and has been rebuilt several times since. Conclude the day by visiting the Leányvár cellar row in Sióagárd.
