1. day tour
Start with the wines in the more distant part of the wine district, as the wines near the Slovenian border are markedly different from those from the other parts of the wine district closer to Lake Balaton, thus unique and unrepeatable. Visit the ancient beech grove called Vétyemi Ősbükkös on the edge of Tormafölde, marvel at Bázakerettye, the cradle of the Hungarian oil industry, and its old oil wells, now considered industrial monuments, and then enjoy a wine tasting at a winery in Csörnyeföld.
Afterwards, if you wish to understand the history of these hills, vineyards and villages, you can also visit Lendava, now on the other side of the border. If you still have some energy left, you can end the day by visiting the Andrássy-Szapáry Palace in Szécsisziget and maybe even the Kerka Watermill Museum, also in the village. You could also take the narrow-gauge railway between Csömödér and Kistolmács or relax in the pools of the thermal bath in Lenti.
2. day tour
In the morning, have a stroll in Nagykanizsa and then head to the Zobori Adventure Park in the vineyards above Zalaszabar. Its slides and meerkats, restaurant and café, games and the winery belonging to the estate can easily keep the family occupied for the entire day! If you’re looking for another experience, then head down the hill and relax at the Zalakaros thermal bath. If you feel like doing something more active, then you can visit the Búbos Vöcsök educational trail on Kányavári Island or the Kápolnapuszta Buffalo Reserve on the edge of Zalakomár.
You can end the day in one of Zalaszentgrót’s lovely wineries, where you can discover some new, somewhat unusual grape varieties!
