Zala Wine District

1. day tour

In the morning, visit the ancient beech grove called Vétyemi Ősbükkös on the edge of Tormafölde, marvel at Bázakerettye, the cradle of the Hungarian oil industry, and its old oil wells, now considered industrial monuments, and then enjoy a wine tasting at a winery in Csörnyeföld. If you still have some energy left, you can end the day by visiting the Andrássy-Szapáry Palace in Szécsisziget and maybe even the Kerka Watermill Museum, also in the village.

You could also take the narrow-gauge railway between Csömödér and Kistolmács or relax in the pools of the thermal bath in Lenti.

 

2. day tour

In the morning, have a stroll in Nagykanizsa, visit the Batthyány Palace, which houses the György Thúry Museum, and see the Greater Hungary and Castle Gate Monuments. Make an excursion to the 26-hectare protected Csibiti Valley in Újudvar, which boasts a forest lake with a lakeside recreation area.

A wonderful forest road rich in flora and fauna leads through the valley, where you can find a great variety of fern species. In the evening, visit a winery in Zalaszabar or Nagyrada.


3. day tour

In the morning, have a swim in the unique Lake Hévíz or take a walk in Keszthely on the shores of Lake Balaton, then have lunch. Then visit the Peace Stupa in Zalaszántó, one of the largest Buddhist shrines in Europe, and head to the villages of Vindornyaszőlős and Vindornyalak, whose peace and quiet, folk architectural traditions and also their wines will tempt you to stop.

Spend the second half of the day enjoying a wine tasting in Zalaszentgrót, before bidding farewell to the Zala Wine District.
