Being a Kossuth-Prize awarded musician, Szörényi Levente’s name has been associated with music for a half century. Few people know him as a winemaker. It was in 1994 when he spotted a land in Bács-hegy, where he can live both his passions: composing music and making wine. Bács-hegy is situated in the Badacsony wine region. The soil is of volcanic origin. The special soil conditions and the microclimate of the region make it possible to produce wines with a special character: full bodied, rich in fine acidity and distinct minerality. Levente and his son, Örs planted the first Olaszrizling vine-plants in 1996, and then Juhfark-Chardonnay in 2000. Levente has been caring for his vineyard on his own: he does green pruning, shoot positioning, harvesting by hand, with some help from Örs lately. They have been bottling their wines intented for own consumption since 1999. In 2018 their winery received marketing authorization. This way the Szörényi family wines can become more widely available.
