The most adorable winemakers – On Instagram

Social media is actually a platform of love: with a quick an easy action, we can express our liking, and afterwards the generated love of the community can serve as guidance. Social media obviously has side effects, but now let us focus on the positive aspects. Social sites, including Instagram can educate, inform, and with the above-mentioned collective liking it can help discover an unknown world, for instance the colourful world of Hungarian wines. Photos are more or less universal, and they help cross language barriers, therefore Instagram is probably the best tool among social media sites to bring Hungarian winemakers closer to foreign consumers.

Ten thousands of followers

Hungary is a relatively small country with a population of 10 million people, therefore in a niche topic like wine 10 thousand is considered to be a significant number. The winery with the most followers is Hilltop Borbirtok (28 200) in Neszmély with wonderful view and events. The second is Laposa Winery (with 22 600 followers) on the north shore of Lake Balaton. They run a wine bar and a restaurant as well, to sip a glass of white wine from the volcanic Badacsony and enjoy the view of the light blue lake is an unforgettable experience. The next one is Kristinus Wine Estate (13 200) just opposite: on the south shore of Lake Balaton. The estate is converting the vineyards into organic and biodynamic, therefore following them we can get insight into biodynamic practices and we will surely adore the cute "vineyard workers", the resident cows. The posts are in English! The third winery regarding the number of followers is Thummerer Winery (12 600) in Eger, one of the most renowned producers of the famous Egri Bikavér (also known as Bull's Blood). The winery is carved into the soft tuff rock of the mountain, a must for wine travellers.

Let us get connected!

Among the 400 wineries of winesofhungary.hu the most active is Teleki Villány (with an average of 298 likes), a winery founded by Zsigmond Teleki, a world-famous viticulturist. The winery targets young adults with their Instagram site, thus we can see lovely photos of shiny, happy people enjoying a glass of rosé in the park, a bottle of bubbly on the beach or a heartwarming glass of red wine in the snow. Among our 22 wine districts, Szekszárd is the most active with several wineries with a high engagement rate: Takler Wine Estate, Heimann & Sons and Vesztergombi Winery. And who is the most active regarding the number of posts? It is undoubtedly Krisztina Csetvei of Csetvei Cellar from the tiny Mór wine district. Krisztina boasts an incredible number of posts: 3720 to date, there is nobody even near to her. By following Csetvei Cellar we can literally get insight into the everyday life of a winery. What happens in the barrels, who is visiting the cellar, how funny it can be to clean the cellar with the huge, snake-like water tubes.

Pleasure to the eyes

Instagram operates with captivating photos, so let us highlight some Hungarian wineries with entertaining, stunning photos. Vylyan Vineyard and Winery has a reputation of being artistic in every aspect from the labels to the events, no wonder their Instagram page is also eye-catching. Frittmann Winery, the leading winery of Kunság wine district posts simple but lovely, thirst-quenching photos of their juicy, aromatic white wines and crispy rosé wines. Etyeki Kúria features catchy photos of wines, but also introduces members of the staff, showing the people behind the wines. Though not a winemaker, yet it is worth mentioning VinographHungary, a photographer posting images of winemakers. In every post of Vinograph something is bouncing or !

Passionate missionaries

Wherever you live, you can find enthusiastic wine people to post about Hungarian wines; let us mention a few. Citadella Imports is run by a young Hungarian lady living in New York, posting lovely photos of wine. The owner of the Swiss Le Bouchon Vinothek takes photos of bottles in beautiful settings, mostly outdoor. Best of Hungary in the United Kingdom educates us not only about wine, but also about Hungarian gastronomy. Hungarianwines.eu is run from Spain and informs wine lovers about Hungarian wines in English on a daily basis.
