Hungarian finalists at Wine Travel Awards!

Voting period of Wine Travel Awards closed in the end of March. Thanks to Wines of Hungary - Personally we could support 11 Hungarian events / wineries in the strong international contest. The 5 nominees collecting the most votes in each category became finalists and will be in the hand of the jury of 12 renowned wine experts. Budapest Wine Festival entered in the category called Event of the Year, while Villány Franc & Franc Forum and Tasting Day appeared in the category Magnet of the Region. Winners of Wine Travel Awards will be presented in May during London Wine Fair. We hope that the two Hungarian finalists will make it to London!

Aiming to promote wine tourism

Robert Joseph wine writer is the editor-in-chief of Meininger Wine Business, Fiona Morrison MW is a renowned wine expert and importer, Felicity Carter award winner wine writer is a frequent lecturer of wine events – and all three of them are jury members of Wine Travel Awards. The jury includes a Hungarian wine expert as well: Gergely Szolnoki is a professor at Geisenheim University. Though the list of jury members and the contest of each category is highly international, Wine Travel Awards was born in Ukraine by Drinks+Media Group. The idea was developed during the pandemic, to put wine tourism in the lime light. Though the launch of the award took place when the war broke out, the colleagues of Wine Travel Awards worked hard despite the horrible circumstances. Wine Travel Awards have already achieved its objective: to draw attention to the players of wine tourism and to present exciting destinations for wine travellers.

Wines of Hungary - Personally – we have entered together

We can find well known names among the sponsors of Wine Travel Awards like La Cité du Vin wine tourism centre in Bordeaux or Vinos de La Luz group with wineries in Spain, Italy and Argentina. Wines of Hungary - Personally, joined the initiative as well to help the success of WTA, since wine tourism segment suffered seriously due to the pandemic and this contest can efficiently promote wine travels and discovering new wineries throughout the world. WHP entered 11 events / wineries as a sponsor. During the selection process the main aspect was to nominate outstanding events and wineries with strong international abilities – functioning website in English, sufficient texts, photos and videos.

Besides the two finalists another event and the following wineries were nominated: Vylyan Vineyard and Winery (Villány), Holdvölgy and Barta Cellar (Tokaj), Pannonhalma Archabbey Winery (Pannonhalma), Etyeki Kúria (Etyek), Laposa Winery and Kristinus Wine Estate (Balaton), Tóth Ferenc Winery (Eger) and Somló Juhfark Celebration. Csányi Winery from Villány entered the contest as well before WHP sponsorship.

We recommend to browse winetravelawards.com website, since you can discover fabulous wineries and events among the nominees from Georgia to Australia.
