National Wine Competition results announced: these are the best Hungarian wines in 2022

The award ceremony of the 41st National Wine Competition (OBV) was held in Budapest on 31st August, announcing and awarding producers of the top-rated Hungarian wines. This year, 232 wineries from 22 wine districts entered a total of 824 wines in the competition. The most successful winery with 3 grand gold medals and 2 gold medals proved to be Pajzos Tokaj from the Tokaj Wine Region. The awards were handed over by István Nagy, Minister of Agriculture and Ottó Légli, President of the National Council of Wine Communities (NCWC), the interbranch organisation of Hungarian wine producers and vine growers, organiser of the Wine Competition.

Ottó Légli, President of the National Council of Wine Communities emphasized in his speech that Hungarian wine producers have accumulated such a quantity of talent and innovation that "today, we no longer have to compete with each other, but with ourselves". He recalled that the Wine Competition was held after a forced break lasting two years. OBV now is more than a competition, it has also become a forum, thanks to the evaluation mainly done by the winemakers themselves, he noted.

The Presidency of the National Council of Wine Communities has set itself the goal of renewing the Wine Competition, foreseen as a prominent element in the Council’s long-term strategy and the most important professional event of the Hungarian wine-growing community.
