The success of Hungarian wine in South Korea: Hungary impressed the audience as guest of honour at the Daejeon International Wine Expo

Hungarian wines have received significant recognition in the South Korean market, where Hungary was guest of honour at the Daejeon International Wine Expo (DIWE), held from 27 October to 3 November. The prestigious event offered a unique opportunity for Hungarian winemakers to showcase the quality and diversity of Hungarian winemaking in South Korea.

The Asia Wine Trophy was held for the twelfth time this year as a co-organised event of DIWE, and Hungarian wines achieved outstanding results. A total of 3,619 wines from 33 countries were judged by a panel of 114 international experts. At the end of the competition, 1,108 wines were awarded medals: 41 Grand Gold, 862 Gold and 205 Silver.

Hungarian wines won a total of 76 medals: 7 Grand Gold, 56 Gold and 13 Silver, an exceptional result for Hungary. This outstanding success is further proof that Hungarian wines are taking their rightful place at the forefront of the international wine world, and that the industry's efforts are bearing fruit in Far Eastern markets.

“Hungary's participation as guest of honour at the Daejeon International Wine Expo is a special recognition and opportunity for us. The results of the Asia Wine Trophy will further strengthen the reputation of Hungarian wines and reinforce our position in the Korean market,” said Pál Rókusfalvy, Government Commissioner for National Wine Marketing. “South Korean consumers are increasingly open to Hungarian wines, as evidenced by the fact that demand is increasing steadily. Our aim is to promote the unique flavours and values of Hungarian wines to as many people as possible,” he added.

Although DIWE and the Asia Wine Trophy have been successfully concluded, the campaign to promote Hungarian wines in South Korea is continuing. In the coming months, professional wine tastings and events will provide even more opportunities for representatives of the Korean market to learn more about Hungarian wines, thus strengthening the position and visibility of Hungarian wines in this Asian country.
